Ice Spiral Sunrise
In early November, my friend and I went out to shoot sunrise on the shores of Lake Edith on a brisk, -24ºC morning. We had to keep ourselves moving so we didn't freeze on the spot, but I found this spot fascinating enough that I stayed for quite a while.
Yes, there was steam rising in the distance (where the lake was still not quite frozen) and a colourful sunrise, but this natural ice sculpture is what grabbed my attention. It's amazing that something like this can form from just a small pile of sticks (especially since there was nothing inside the top part of the spiral except for ice).
